WORKS

Before Language

With Diana Rangel, Camila Barcellone, Celeste Reyna and Amanda Cuesta

Based on the three basic concepts language, border and community, the project was deployed in three areas: an exhibition space at Lo Pati, relocated actions that were developed jointly with the Fundació Pere Mata Terres de l'Ebre and ESARDI - School of Art and Design of Amposta and a collaboration with the publishing house La Caníbal.

Exhibition space
“At the end of the Civil War, the final stretch of the Ebre River became the border between the opposing sides. It is a subject that Nora Ancarola will address in the installation Ebre, incarnated border and that will give rise to transgressing the official historical account. The exhibition circuit will continue with the work Llengualeche  that analyzes systems of power and control, language, migration, the need for integration of individuals and situations of vulnerability. Both installations have been created during the stays of Ancarola at the artists' residence in the center of Balada (in the Delta del Ebre) and managed by Lo Pati.

The exhibition tour of Lo Pati will continue with the work of Camila Barcellone, Eva, her voice... in which, through the voice of Eva Perón, a tour of the language of the people explains how this becomes the language of the show until it reaches the language of politics. The story will be complemented with the piece by Diana Rangel entitled Inquiries about a broken voice, which places the visitor on the threshold where language makes us vulnerable and where, eventually, an instrument of self-knowledge occurs. Her contribution to the exhibition helps to reflect on the concept of the silenced voice and the difficulty of language in the intimate and personal sphere.

All this will be complemented with the video installation >On la_llengua per venir. The work is made with three projections and an interactive installation on the effects of language in relation to sexual difference and issues of postcolonial social exclusion. Last year the project received the 2019 Multiverso Grant for Video Art Creation from the BBVA Foundation, with the collaboration of the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum. The work is presented for the first time in public at Lo Pati de Amposta”.
